Course Content and Structure

The NRA Basic Pistol Course is meticulously structured to impart essential knowledge and skills for safe pistol handling. Here’s what participants can expect:

Course Schedule

The first half of this course (morning) consist of a classroom block of instruction to cover the criteria needed to understand the fundamentals and safety precautions of firearms handing and operation. The second half of the day (afternoon) will consist of your written student exam, and your shooting qualification ranging from level 1-4. A break for lunch will be provided between the two class sections.

Required Equipment

If you don’t have your own pistol, that’s okay. The range will have gun rentals, or you can use a loaner gun from the instructor. You are of course welcome to bring your own firearm if you wish. It is required students have ear and eye protection as well. Depending on the range, indoor or outdoor, and the weather, additional gear may be desired. A hat is always good to have along with sunblock and water source. It is always recommended you bring a notebook and a pen. Coffee and water will typically be provided by the instructor, however, depending on the class and location, it may not always be provided. It is recommended you bring anything you wish to have for the day with you at the beginning of class. Bring at least 100 rounds of ammunition to this class. You are welcome to bring more!
